We have received many inquiries regarding the new packaging for the Marriott-exclusive ETC line of sundries from Mechanical Servants. The questions that have been raised are:
- Why is the packaging pre-priced?
- Why doesn't my POS system scan the ETC barcodes?
- Why do we receive the ETC products instead of the formerly used generic line from Mechanical Servants?
We have been in contact with both Marriott HQ and Mechanical Servants to address your questions and this is the information that we have collected:
The ETC line was originally commissioned by Marriott as an exclusive brand for Full-Service Marriott properties while select service properties were offered a generic brand of sundries from Mechanical Servants. As Marriott looks for ways to continuously improve the offerings within the Market, they chose to extend the availability of the popular ETC products to all properties across the country including Extended Stay and Select Service properties.
However, these properties have a different POS system than the Full Service Marriott hotels. In order for Select Service and Extended Stay properties to be able to scan the barcode, their POS systems have to be programmed to read a different type of barcode. We are working closely with Marriott's IT department and believe we have identified the problem as well as a quick fix. We will be testing the solution this week and, assuming it is successful, Marriott will post instructions on how to program your POS system on the Marriott Global Source newsletter next week.
Regarding the pre-pricing, these prices were established by Marriott and have sold well at Full Service properties since the development of the ETC line. There is no current plan to remove the pre-pricing, but a price increase is being discussed.
If you have further questions about this line, please feel free to contact us. Or contact Eloise Sanchez in Marriott's CFRST department.
Have a great day!
