The Market has undergone many exciting changes over the Marriott Logopast few years. What was once simply a convenient amenity for guests is quickly becoming a standard in the hotel industry with Marriott CFRST brands at the forefront of the movement.

 

The Market has also proven to be a consistent revenue stream at properties that attentively manage and maintain inventory levels making the need to develop and adhere to a defined Marriott-level standard greater than ever.

 

For the first time since beginning The Market program, Marriott is able to initiate a nationwide quality standard for The Market. This is due, in large part, to our partnership with Tradavo: a nationwide consolidator of food, beverage, and sundry distributors that offers a well-rounded pantry assortment on a national level specifically customized for Marriott properties.

 

The CFRST Market department thoroughly evaluated the Tradavo program examining convenience, pricing, assortment and availability, and chose Tradavo as the exclusive Marriott vendor for Market inventory based on the overall quality of the program.

 

Tradavo should immediately replace the use of local distributors, offsite shopping trips to wholesale clubs and other ad-hoc alternatives managers have developed out of necessity.

Marriott Guidelines

Supplying and Managing The Market

1. Tradavo Registration

Go to www.tradavo.com and register for an account. All 

orders for Market inventory should be placed using Tradavo.
 

2. Assortment 

Log in to Tradavo and select a variety of products for each of
the following Marriott-approved Market inventory categories: 
 

            Salty Snacks

            Cookies

            Crackers

            Chocolate

            Candy

            Healthy Snacks

            Quick Meals

            Ice Cream

            Frozen Foods

            Sundries/Convenience Items

 

Please Note: 

Market sales research shows that highly recognized, national brands are the best selling products sold at The Market.

 

3. Pricing

Generally, the recommended retail price is double the cost of the item.
For example: A case of (24) King-Sized Snickers bars costs $26. That is a unit cost of $1.08 per candy bar. The retail price would be, at minimum, $2.16 and should be rounded up to the nearest $.25. So a King Sized Snickers bar will sell for $2.25.
 
Please be sure to review your retail pricing as items containing chocolate, dairy products and flour have significantly increased in wholesale cost nationwide.
Some items, including water and other beverages, should be sold at a much higher markups. For example: A 20 oz. soda should be sold for at least $1.50-$2.00.If you have questions about acceptable markups on individual items, contact Eloise Sanchez in the CFRST Market department.
 

4. Inventory Levels

Place a refill order AT LEAST every two weeks. Keeping  
well-stocked shelves is essential to increasing revenue. Do not wait to place an order until you have run out of a popular
product.
 

     Every day an item is out of stock, revenue is lost!

 

5. Daily QA

Conduct a QA check on your Market every day evaluating 
the following:

            Displays are neat with fully stocked rows - completely

            full from front to back

            All labels are facing forward and easy to identify

            A variety of products is offered in each category

            A price chart is visible and accurate

 

Additional Recommendations:

Inform guests at check in that The Market is available 24 hours a day.

 

Assign a Market Champion on each shift to conduct a check of the Market -a front desk associate or other reliable employee who will closely monitor inventory levels, assortments and neatness throughout the day.

 

Provide an inventory list for the Market Champions to track inventory levels and make reorder recommendations as they arise.

Why did Marriott choose Tradavo?

Tradavo provides the most well-rounded program of features and services including: nationwide availability, customizable assortments, 24/7 online access to orders, invoices and order tracking, and a variety of other corporate level retail services that will greatly improve the existing Market program across the country.

 

I am currently going to Costco. Can I still go there?

The use of wholesale clubs, grocery stores and other offsite alternatives may seem effective due to the  discounts provided by a global wholesaler, but the drawbacks are endless at both a property and corporate level. Loss of productivity, Workman's Comp issues, and an inconsistent assortment that is not available to all properties nationwide are just a few. The Tradavo Program effectively addresses these issues while providing reasonable prices and online convenience.

 

I like my current distributor. Can I continue to use them?

On an individual basis the current distributor may seem optimal, but we have selected Tradavo for its nationwide value and the corporate wide retail services it provides. We are not able to fully utilize those features if all properties are not fully participating. If you have a quality distributor that is able to supply the majority of categories that Markets carry, you can refer your distributor to Tradavo and ask that they be added to the network.

 

What if I can save money by shopping elsewhere?

Before selecting Tradavo, we carefully evaluated their prices to ensure sufficient margins to apply the Marriott recommended markups.  We found their prices to be very reasonable, and properties who use Tradavo and apply the markups as recommended by Marriott have experienced as much as 300% increases in revenue. It is of far greater value that employees are onsite, consistently ordering through a Marriott approved vendor, than it is to save a few dollars per case on individual items that will be easily recovered using the correct markup.

 

Tradavo is also involved in ongoing negotiations on behalf of Marriott to secure improved pricing and a variety of rebate and promotional programs with national brand partners. These efforts will be further expedited when the volume ordered through Tradavo by Marriott hotels reflects total Marriott participation.

 

Does Tradavo offer billing,  because we do not have a corporate card?

Yes. The Tradavo Billing Program is available to all Marriott properties. Sign up is quick and easy. Just choose the Billing Option when placing your first order. There will be no approval delay for Marriott hotels.

 

What types of products does Tradavo carry?

Tradavo has developed a specific assortment of convenience foods, beverages and sundries to accommodate the typical inventory of a Marriott Market. They offer 17 categories of popular food, beverage and sundry items approved by Marriott including ice cream and frozen foods, the Marriott exclusive ETC sundry line, and a wide assortment of snack foods and specialty beverages.
